Genshin Impact’s Special 2.4 Program revealed there are plenty of new additions to gameplay and lore that players are excited about. “Fleeting Colors in Flight” is the subtitle of the new update and the majority of the content will take place in Liyue. There were lots of awe-inspiring visuals accompanying the Lantern Rite and new characters were introduced to coincide with the return of the festival.
Beyond Liyue there’s even more to discover. While there’s no new word regarding the development of the next nation, Sumeru, there are more than enough new places to explore in the 2.4 update. Beyond Genshin Impact\’s difficult bosses in Inazuma, there will also be additional content in the nation and new events to fill out the game world and lore as a whole. A wide variety of events focusing on combat and exploration are being added that should also contribute to a fleshed-out gameplay experience whether playing single-player or co-op.
Genshin Impact\’s updates are nothing if not substantial, and “Fleeting Colors in Flight” looks to deliver as well. Update 2.4 brings with it a new underwater area, new 5-star and 4-star characters, skins for existing characters, and a wealth of new and returning modes. There are more than enough new side quests, events, areas, characters, skins, and bonus games for players to enjoy, so visiting the new and improved 2.4 Lantern Rite will be well worth Travelers’ time.
A New Undersea Area Named Enkanomiya Will Be Available In Genshin Impact 2.4
Below Inazuma, an ancient underwater nation called Enkanomiya rests crumbled in ruins where the only light source is an artificial halo. This is a full-fledged area for players to explore with their team and will house quests and boss battles for them to complete. The new area will be hidden under Watatsumi Island – Bathysmal Vishaps, which will come in three confirmed varieties, will swarm the area and from the looks of the open room they were in might also be part of a boss fight in pairs. Genshin Impact\’s Enkanomiya island adds lots of content in addition to a new enemy called the Abyss Lector – an elongated monster that resembles the previous Abyss Heralds and seems to use elements, as the one shown in the trailer uses Pyro.
Genshin Impact 2.4’s New Characters Shenhe and Yun Jin Are Cryo and Geo, Respectively
Two characters that were revealed earlier this year but finally got screentime and explanations in the Special Program were Shenhe and Yun Jin, both from Liyue, both polearm users, and both part of the 2.4 update. Shenhe is a Cryo fighter that buffs other Cryo characters with Spring Spirit Summoning, and also uses a clone of herself to fight and cover ground with Divine Maiden’s Deliverance. Shenhe\’s character backstory is discussed in a trailer, with the basics of her character being that she’s not an Adeptus herself yet trained by Cloud Retainer due to a tragic past.
Yun Jin seems more defensive and will definitely slot into the support role with her Opening Flourish and Flying Cloud Flag Formation. The latter is a fairly substantial buff, allowing other teammates to deal extra normal damage equal to Yun Jin’s defense. Her backstory is in entertainment – she’s an opera singer that also happens to write and dance, playing in Liyue Harbor for the Heyu Tea House. Both Shenye and Yun Jin will be available as some of the best event wishes to pull in Genshin as well, along with Xiao, Zhongli, and Ganyu to fill out the Liyue 5-star cast. To coincide with Shenhe and Yun Jin’s introduction, Yun and Ningguang will also both get special hangout events relaying backstory and conversations with travelers.
New Skins Will Be Available for Keqing & Ningguang In Genshin Impact 2.4
One of the exciting developments from the presentation was the introduction of two skins for Keqing and Ningguang based on the Lantern Rite. The full costumes were revealed and seem to be festive dresses for both characters, both being formal wear and shades of blue. Ningguang’s dress is called the “Orchard Evening Gown” and will be available for free as part of the Lantern Rite event – Keqing’s unlockable skin is called “Opulent Splendor” and will be discounted for a limited time.
Genshin Impact 2.4 Includes Potion-based Experiments, The Jade Chamber, & Some New Bosses
After the Jade Chamber crashed into the ocean to defeat Osial, and was destroyed, there was a lot of concern that players would never see the temple again. Fortunately, it seems that there is a storyline about rebuilding it and working with Ningguang to restore the chamber and retrieve some lost artifacts. Pieces of the Jade Chamber are scattered across Liyue’s outskirts and players must collect them by using the Waverider and fighting along the shore of the Treasure Hoarders’ territory. The last boss fight seems to call back to the ancient god itself, but the presentation simply hinted at the fight being similar.
The potions-based event offers some of Genshin Impact 2.4 update\’s free rewards, named bluntly “A Study in Potions.\” It consists of timed battles against small waves of enemies with a potion applied to the team. Character and potion management are both important, as if one is used once, they can’t be used again in the current trial. The faster the team is able to dispel the enemies, the higher the reward – and players can get Primogems and Mora for completing the event.
Genshin Impact 2.4 Offers Less Action-Oriented Events Too
In \”Eight Locales Over Mountains and Seas,\” the bake-danuki of Inazuma wants to see the locales of Mondstadt and Liyue, and so the player is tasked with taking them across the world to dance and take pictures. It’s a fairly simple event, but one that will take some time and allow players to interact with the world and perhaps finish some side quests in Inazuma they might have missed. Players can still earn Primogems, Mora, EXP materials, and Ascension materials for completing this explorative questline.
The funniest (and for some, possibly best) re-addition is undoubtedly Windtrace – a Prop Hunt style minigame that nets players Primogems, Mora, materials for EXP, and the like. Fairly little is known based on the small snippet of gameplay shown off in the trailer, but new maps have been confirmed by miHoYo. For those who have wanted a return to this variety of gameplay, this is a welcome readdition.
Along with all of these updates, a fireworks crafting system will be implemented, a shadow-matching mini-game will be available, and a special event called “Prosperous Partnerships” will allow Travelers to invite a 4-star Liyue-based character of their choice upon completing a quest. Many of the upgrades are smaller rewards and events too long of a list to go over here. Rest assured, there are new commissions and world quests as well as events that will give players free characters, Intertwined Fate, and Talent Level-Up Material.
All of this comes with a large number of bug fixes and general quality-of-life improvements. Many of the events will have achievements tied to them, so there’s a lot of auxiliary content to help with grinding. Genshin Impact has been adding more mini-games and continues to offer new content without having yet added new nations, so this update should allow players to explore the part of the game they like best. Even for those that are going on quests, there are enough new rewards and areas to explore that the game should stay fresh until the next update.
