The massive open world of Treyvat already provides countless areas for players to explore, but Genshin Impact\’s developers stated that a map expansion is planned for late December. The map expansion will come as a part of Genshin Impacts\’ second planned update in a series of regularly scheduled content updates.
Genshin Impact is a free-to-play open-world adventure game developed by MiHoYo. The game was released on September 28 allowing players to freely explore the vast open-world of Treyvat. Genshin Impact has been compared to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild because of the freedom it gives players to explore with minor limitations (and because of its very similar art style, mechanics, and systems). At the start, players have the ability to explore two large continents: Liyue and Mondstadt. Each continent has various areas full of personality and offers enough content to warrant a $60 price tag.
Dragonspine\’s location can be seen on Genshin Impact\’s map via white text in an empty blacked-out area. The region seems too small to be its own continent, and its placement between Liyue and Mondstadt makes Dragonspine seem as if it will be a part of one of the pre-existing continents. MiHoYo has stated that the main player-character will be able to harness the power of all seven elements, but each element comes from a different continent. Dragonspine could be a healthy chunk of new land to explore, but it likely won\’t offer the same level of exploration as Mondstandt or Liyue.
Regardless, it will be nice to have a new region to explore. Those who have played Genshin Impact every day since its release may be running out of things to do or nooks to explore, and a map expansion is exactly what consistent players need. While MiHoYo does plan to release updates frequently, the Dragonspine map expansion seems like the largest update of the ones listed. It will be interesting to see what Genshin Impact offers those who are brave enough to explore the lands of Dragonspine.
