Genshin Impact\’s 2.7 update has finally arrived, bringing with it the new 5-star Hydro character Yelan to rival Childe and Ayato. Yelan wields a bow and is the second bow user attuned with Hydro, after Childe. Yelan excels in the Sub-DPS role and has already drawn comparisons with Xingqiu, a 4-star Hydro character in Genshin Impact considered one of the game\’s top Sub-DPS characters. Yelan\’s Hydro elemental mastery makes her versatile, as she can be used to trigger Elemental Reactions with every element except Dendro, dealing devastating damage to opponents.
Yelan is one of two new characters added to Genshin Impact in version 2.7, with the second being Kuki Shinobu, a 4-star Electro user. Both characters had their Genshin Impact character models leaked ahead of their release, after the models were datamined in leaks from the Genshin Impact 2.6 beta test. Shortly after the leaks were shared, HoYoverse officially announced the upcoming release of Yelan and Kuki Shinobu, sharing details about the two new characters alongside their official artwork.

Like fellow Hydro Sub-DPS character Xingqiu, Yelan works best in parties focused on either Vaporize, Electro-Charged, or Frozen Elemental Reactions. This is especially crucial for Yelan as a bow user, as Bows in Genshin Impact are best at applying elemental damage from afar using Charge Attacks. When Yelan performs a Charge Attack, water will pool around the arrowhead and so, when the arrow hits its target, Hydro damage will be dealt. When Yelan applies Hydro using her Elemental Burst in Genshin Impact, it provides a damage buff to the active character in the party.
Genshin Impact: Best Team Compositions Using Yelan
Due to her similarities to fellow Hydro Sub-DPS character Xingqiu, Yelan can replace him in the Raiden National Team. This team consists of Raiden Shogun as Main DPS, Yelan as Sub-DPS, Bennett as Support and Healer, and Xiangling as a second Sub-DPS providing Pyro Elemental Resonance. As well as making use of Yelan\’s ability to trigger Vaporize and Electro-Charged reactions, the team features two of Genshin Impact\’s free and easy to obtain characters.
For a Vaporize team, Xiangling can be promoted to Main DPS, with Yelan in the Sub-DPS role, and Bennett, a Healer and one of Genshin Impact\’s best Support characters. To finalize the party, Anemo-wielding characters like Kazuha or Sucrose can provide support and crowd control using Anemo, while triggering Swirl Elemental Reactions to maximize damage. If Genshin Impact players own a 5-star Pyro Main DPS character like Yoimiya or Hu Tao, they can take the place of Xiangling.
The final option is a Permafrost team, applying Cryo to enemies afflicted by Yelan\’s Hydro to Freeze them, both dealing damage and providing effective crowd control. A Permafrost team would comprise of a Cryo Main DPS like Ganyu or Ayaka, Yelan in the Sub-DPS role, Cryo character Diona provides Cryo Resonance in the Support/Healer role, and an Anemo DPS like Venti or Kazuha as a second Sub-DPS with the ability to trigger Swirl reactions. Yelan is a versatile, powerful Hydro Sub-DPS character in Genshin Impact with the ability to usurp Xingqiu as the game\’s top Hydro Sub-DPS.
