How Genshin Impact 2.4’s Lantern Rite Is Different From Last Year’s

The Lantern Rite event first premiered in Genshin Impact’s Version 1.3 to celebrate Liyue’s Lantern Rite Festival and Chinese New Year. During this first Lantern Rite, 5-star Anemo Polearm-user Xiao and 5-Star Pyro Polearm-user Hu Tao were the featured Banner characters. The Lantern Rite is meant to honor the heroes who risked their lives to protect Liyue, but the 2.4 event may be different this year.

Version 1.3’s Lantern Rite event revolved around Xiao, the only known surviving member of the original five Yakshas who were sanctioned by the Geo Archon Morax to protect Liyue from evil. Xiao can be found at the Wangshu Inn, though he prefers to avoid human interaction. By the end of the event, Xiao was able to witness Liyue’s appreciation for his heroic deeds firsthand.

1.3’s Lantern Rite was divided into five sections: All That Glitters, Lantern Rite Tales, Theater Mechanicus, the Xiao Market, and Stand By Me. All That Glitters was a questline that involved celebrating all the heroes of the festival, including Xiao in Genshin Impact. Lantern Rite Tales required players to complete requests of Liyue citizens to progress and earn currency. Theater Mechanicus was an event Domain that had tower defense mechanics. The Xiao Market offered rewards in exchange for event currency, while Stand By Me allowed players to invite a 4-star Liyue character to their roster.

Genshin Impact’s 2.4 Lantern Rite Brings More Diverse Event Challenges

With the return of the Lantern Rite event in Genshin Impact 2.4, the core celebration remains the same, though there are new features and challenges for players to participate in. With the first event titled, “Flameplume Starflowers,” players will be able to assist in the firsthand production of fireworks rather than leaving it to Genshin Impact’s Pyro Bow-user Yoimiya. With the “Launch Tube” gadget, players will be able to smelt fireworks while using different techniques to ensure the highest possible quality.

The next event, “Wondrous Shadows” allows players the opportunity to participate in a classic riddle game that involves the use of a Shadow Lantern. Players will need to rotate the segments of the Shadow Lantern in order to reveal the true image. In Chapter I, Act III of the Archon Quests, the Jade Chamber was sacrificed in order to defeat the ancient sea god, Osial, making it inaccessible. However, “The Great Gathering” tasks players with recovering the scattered material of the Jade Chamber in order to aid its reconstruction. The last event of the Lantern Rite is titled “Oceanic Defender” where players will need to defeat a large serpent-like Boss that attacks from the water. This Boss looks and attacks similar to Osial, making it an intimidating opponent. However, Cryo-users such as Shenhe in Genshin Impact will allow players to defeat this Boss with ease.

As a newly added feature, Ningguang’s skin “Orchid’s Evening Gown” can be obtained for free for players who participate in the Lantern Rite. Keqing’s skin “Opulent Splendor” will also be available for purchase. Lastly, Similar to 1.3’s Lantern Rite, players will be able to invite a 4-star Liyue character of their choice through Prosperous Partnerships. At the time of Version 1.3, there were only six Liyue characters to choose from. With Version 2.4, players will be able to choose from a total of eight Liyue characters. This gives Genshin Impact players a higher chance to invite a favored character to their team.
