Is genshin impact racist?

No, not really.

  • Some people would say there aren’t enough dark-skinned people in there, and the ones we have (Kaeya) aren’t dark-skinned enough.
    • I think we can defer judgement on that to the time when they realize all their plans to build all the 7 nations and populate them with characters. As it is, we have pseudo-Germany and pseudo-China, countries whose prototypes don’t have too many dark-skinned people.
    • So far, I think it’s anime style of the game that makes people of Liyue more fair-skinned than might be expected of pseudo-China.
  • From what I saw so far, Genshin Impact is surprisingly good at portraying different cultures without getting mired in stereotypes.
  • The real test would be when pseudo-Japan, Inazuma, appears in the story. Genshin Impact is made in China, and Chinese are said to have plenty of grudges against Japan.
