Tutorial Name: Relink Missing Files from Pro Tools 11
Developed by Drew Stone

Description: A Missing Files dialogue box automatically appears if Pro Tools 11 detects missing files from a previously saved project. Often the simplest solution is to select the Automatic Find and Relink option in the Missing Files dialogue Box.
Click OK, and if Pro Tools can Find and Relink the files, it will (see image below).
Step 1: If the program cannot find the files for you, this Task Manager menu will appear (see image below) showing possible matches for the missing files.
Below, the program found no matches, so I closed out of this project to manually Relink the files.
Step 2: If you choose to close your entire project with unlinked or missing files while Pro Tools is looking for them, you will be prompted with this dialogue box. I clicked yes.
Step 3: To Relink a missing file from within a program, from the top menu select
Window > Workspaces > Relink (see image below).
Step 4: To manually Relink files, select the Manually Find & Relink option from this dialogue box, and click OK (see image below).
Step 5: Point to, or find the files that are missing. For the example below, I moved the files to a specially created folder outside of where they are usually found.
By default, tracks are stored in the Audio Files folder of your project.
Note: When Manually Relinking files, Pro Tools 11 tells you what to look for in the bottom fields. To Relink the files, you must check the boxes next to the folder that contains those files as illustrated below.
Step 6: With the files selected, click on the button at the top of the window: Find Links.
Step 7: A Linking Options menu will appear to specify how the files should be incorporated into the project. Select the correct options for your project and click OK.
Step 8: At the top of the window next to Find Links, click on Commit Links button.
You will be asked to confirm that these are the files you wish to Relink, click OK.
Note: The chain link icons on the left (see image below) show that the lost files are now Relinked to the folder within the project. Please note that the files are NOT automatically inserted into the Audio Files folder; they are being referenced to from their current location.
Please be sure to save all of your files in the appropriate folder.
